Ghana to prioritize eradication of open defecation in 2020: minister

The ministry of Sanitation and water resource will prioritize the the complete eradication of open defecation in Ghana next year(2020), sector minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has said.

She said this will be done be intensifying the provision of  toilets to deprived households across the country.

“Two thousand units of toilet facilities consisting latrines and water closets have been provided to households and we will continue to provide them,”  the minister  made this pledge during the eighth National Development Forum organized by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in Accra.on Thursday.

She said through such efforts by the government, 3,000 communities across the country had been declared open defecation-free.

The minister also asked landlords to ensure that there were adequate toilet facilities in their homes before letting them out. Similarly, she urged developers to also ensure that there were at least makeshift toilet facilities for caretakers and builders during the development of residential properties.
